With an initial interest to study    political economy of historical processduring   my Masters   in 1980s   at Jawaharlal Nehru University. in late1980s,I prepared two term papers on the   ItalianMarxist thinker Antonio Gramsci thoughts on Subaltern classes, and on the   stages of transitions   to capitalist industrialization whilewriting  my M. Phil dissertation   on  peasant mobilization and everyday forms of protest in the coastalcountryside of Odisha during 1937-39, at the Department of History, Universityof Delhi. I, also,   wrote my doctoralthesis   “Peasant protest & Nationalism;Cuttack District 1920-329” at the same place, attempting to construct acultural ethnography of Gandhian Nationalism & Peasant Politics.. A twoyear study leave helped me to recast the themes on biographical andautobiographical accounts, the debates  around the contours of anti-colonial nationalism, peasant politics, vernacularhistory and the local community and its memory in the light of a variety ofextant and   fresh archival sources and awide range of secondary writings.
